Amsterdam

Hi Guys

So, the first stop on our adventure was Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is seen as this big old famous city with tonnes of history and culture and that, it is. But if i'm 100% honest it wasn't the best place I've been, now I don't know whether this is because I've been to quite a lot of other places and were comparing it to them but for me it wasn't what its raved about. On the other hand if your looking for a place where you can get off your tits and sloth about for a weekend without anybody judging you its definitely the place for you!

The heart of the city itself is stunning with tonnes of unique buildings, you could sped all day looking at them and with enough canals to give venice a run for its money. The city is very flat and the locals seem to take advantage of that with cycling being one of their main forms of transport.

Now you could ask anybody about the historical significance of Amsterdam and everyones first answer would probably be Anne Frank. Me and Faye queued for an hour and a half to go in the house and it was definitely worth it (even if Faye did moan the entire time). Unfortunately you couldn't take photos in the house. The house itself is a lot bigger inside than what you would think, the part that was once a working building has now been converted into a sort of archive with extracts from the diaries, which I found really interesting.

To get there I drove to hull and we boarded a P&O mini cruise the same day. we were on 'The Pride Of Rotterdam" and we were pleasantly surprised by the ship. We were expecting it to be like a little crappy ferry but instead it was actually like a miniature cruise! I'd deffo do it again.

Now anyways heres some pics.

Live the adventure

Hi Guys

So in my last blog post I mentioned that I was off doing exciting things and would keep you updated in due course, well that time is now!!

A few weeks ago my Parents went on a 2 week cruise and all my Dad could do was rub it in (the fact I wasn't going with them was killing me).

So from this me and Faye hatched a plan, we were going to do as much stuff as possible in that 2 weeks and that we did. This plan all started in about January when we just said in a conversation "you know what'll be funny? If we go to loads of places and don't tell Mum and Dad and just show them the pictures when they get home".

From then we booked trips around the country (and out of the country), we were lucky because we got some really good deals too. It was a jam packed week but we went to some great places that we have been wanting to go to.

Keep watch for my next posts about the places we went and the pictures that I took :)

Below is a quick look at what we got up to.

Copper is the new Black! | James.com - DIY

Hi Guys!

So lately I have been obsessing about copper and everything about it! (Not a clue why) I just find the colour is great for any time of year! It is a warm household shade for the winter months but also flourishes in the sunlight!

If I could I would make anything and everything in my house copper at the minute, I just love the way it looks. It has a classic yet contemporary feel to it.

Whilst scanning through Pinterest and a variety of homeware stores such as Oliver Bonas, I have been inspired to up cycle current items in order to fit with my new obsession.

I would like to share with you a couple of my Copper inspired DIY projects with you and talk you through how I achieved the look.

- The letters!

As you can see the letters just started off as a distressed chrome and to be honest I loved the way they looked but found that they did not stand out very well against the grey wall. So therefore copper was the best way forward!

Firstly I placed the letters Face up on paper, this was in order to protect the table beneath. I sprayed everything outdoors to keep the fumes down.

I gave the letters a generous coating of the spray to make sure it was evenly distributed, and then panicked thinking it would dry all blotchy and runny. Nevertheless i persevered  with the hopes tbhey would dry evenly.

Once the letters dried this is the result I was left with and i am pretty happy with it. I then hung them back on the wall where they previously were to see the finished effect.

so there you go, an easy step by step guide to update and modernise anything in your home and the cost of a can a spray paint.

I hope you enjoyed this DIY blog post and hope that you stick with me for future posts.

Thanks -

Do more of what makes you happy! | James.com

Hi Guys

So today I am writing a kind of follow on post from the "Im torn" post. (you can see this post by clicking HERE).  I suggest reading that first.

Anyways, as I mentioned in the post I was unsure about what to do about college and one of my new years resolutions is to live more in the moment and be happy with what I am doing at that time. So yea, I have left college!

After a tutorial I had with my tutor I actually discovered that I was on the wrong course and after finishing the course of two years it would result in the same grades that I already have and therefore would not count as anything. (what a waste of time) so I have made the decision to leave and if i'm honest I am the happiest I have been in months.

This is now allowing me to focus my time on work (to earn money obvs) and planning what I really want to do with my future.

sorry about this boring post, ill make it up to you next week with a cool DIY project that I have done and cant wait to reveal.

As always, thanks for reading!

Kilner Jar Lamp - Do It Yourself

Hi Guys

So today I thought I would share with you all a nifty design idea!

These lamps usually retail from £30 - £60 depending on where you buy them from!

To make these lamps yourself it will cost you as little as £9 or less depending on where you buy the products from (now thats a bargain). So why not not make a cool lamp which will stand out in any home!

You will need:

  • 1 litre Kilner Jar or a 1qrt Mason jar if your from America
  • Pendant light
  • Plug
  • Lightbulb

Plug Socket

pendant light

Kilner jar

To make the light first of all you will need to take the lid off of the jar and trace the size of the pendant light around the removable part of the jar.

Then remove the screw top from the lid. This will give you access to the centre of the lid ready for you to cut it out.

Be careful of the sharp edges!

Once you have cut out the centre of the lid you will need to attach it to the pendant light. Firstly unscrew the light and remove the screw top bit. Then attach the lid of the jar to the light fitting. After this you will need to screw the screw top bit back on.

When you have done that you will need to feed the wire from the light through the screw top from the lid. This will ensure a realistic seal.

When this has been done attach the plug! But be careful and get someone who knows what they're doing to do this as you are playing with electric.

Now attach the bulb and screw the lid back on the jar! COMPLETE!!
Thats all you have to do to create something as good as this!

Above is the finished lamp!
This looks good in any room so I highly recommend you try it out:)

I hope you enjoyed this DIY post

Daniel Wellington - Classic Cambridge

Hi Guys

So over this weekend I though I would treat myself (seen as I always say it) and purchased another watch.

Now my obsession with watches has always been apparent. From a young age I was just obsessed with them, I haven't a clue why? I have a wide collection of watches, all with big brand names such as Armani and Michael Kors.

I have seen the Daniel Wellington brand pop up across the internet in youtube favourites and blog posts over the years and always liked the classic look of the watch face with the preppy strap. Although I have always been reluctant to buy one as I have never actually seen one in a watch shop or jewellers (well not in leeds anyway) and I usually like to see them in the flesh first and try them on.

To me a watch is an investment that I see will last a lifetime, so when shopping for a watch I tend to look for something timeless that wont age and will also stand the test of time.

I feel that this Daniel Wellington is just what I would go for and thats why I took the plunge and separated with my precious money to have it in my life.

This watch Has A rose gold perimeter with rose gold detailing on the watch face, There is also a rose gold latch on the strap of the watch to secure the fastening when wearing it. I bought the watch in the style Classic Cambridge. This came with a Red, White and blue thick striped strap which I feel gives the watch a preppy classic look, great the summer.

This watch stands out amongst others and has a very eye catching design. It is also great for everyday use due to its lightweight nature. for those who are used to heavy watches like me you can really feel a difference in weight although you are still aware that you have the watch on your wrist, I think this maybe just depends on how tight you like your watch though if i'm honest.

I hope you enjoyed this post

Eureka!

Hi Guys!

So lately iv'e had an epiphany and at long last I know which direction I want to go in with my blog! From the beginning iv'e known that I wanted to blog about everyday life but had no path to take James.com down. But after a good old revamp (I do love a good revamp don't you?) of the style of my blog over the Holiday season I at long last know what I want to talk to you about!

And this is (drum roll please.....) LIFESTYLE, FASHION, DESIGN AND FOOD! you could probably tell by the new header tbh but oh well :) I like to make a scene.

Throughout the next year I plan to expand my blog with weekly page updates focussing on these subjects. Obviously lifestyle pretty much covers a lot of things so travel will still play a big part on the blog. Hopefully through this I shall develop a wider audience to share my mind with.

Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you want to read about! I would be ever to grateful :)

Once again thanks for reading
